Effects of Lovastatin on Serum Lkyfi4s of Patients with Primary Hypercholesterolemia

Abstract

|
Lovastatin 40 or 60 mg in daily single oral dose were given in 15 primary hypercho- lesterolemia patients for 12 weeks and the changes of plasma lipids, side effects were observed. Plasma total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride levels were reduced by 22 %, 12%, 5%. The HDL cholesterol level increased by 5%. Except 2 cases of mild diarrheas, there was no recognizable side effect, Serum AST, ALT level and complete blood cell count were not changed significantly. Thus lovastatin was cosidered as effective and safe lipid 1owering agent in primary hypercholesterolemia.
